No Boat...No Problem!

The SFYC is all about getting people on the water. Whether you’re a member looking to crew, looking for crew, looking to cruise, wanting to hone your sailing skills or hoping to try your hand skippering a boat – we have an option for you! You don’t need to have a boat – that’s what the No Boat...No Problem! program is about.

Read on for more details about the opportunities to get out on the water, enjoying the San Francisco Bay.

  • J/22 Member Race Practice
    • Wednesdays, May 24 through August 16

      6:30 p.m - 9:00 p.m.

      This program is designed to be racing practice for sailors interested in racing small keelboats. Drills and practice races will take place in Belvedere Cove or Richardson Bay. Sailing experience is required, as there will not be coaches on the J/22s. Forrest Gay will be the lead coach for this program.

      • Rules debrief after sailing
      • Beer and snacks provided after sailing
      • Limit of 16 sailors (first signed up, first served)
  • J/22 Member Learn to Sail
    • Wednesdays, May 24 through August 16

      6:30 p.m - 9:00 p.m.

      This is for adult members who have always wanted to learn to sail. One instructor can take out up to four members to teach them the basics.

      • Lifejacket and sailing clothes required (running/tennis shoes, waterproof jacket, etc)
      • Online registration weekly required by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday HERE
      • Beer and snacks provided after sailing
  • J/22 Women’s Sailing Program
    • Thursdays, May 25 through August 17
      6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

      This program is open to all women Members and spouses of SFYC Members who are interested in sailing. Each J/22 will have an instructor onboard to assist in learning sailing and racing techniques. Women who desire to practice racing and race also have the opportunity to register for the CYC Friday Nights.

      • Limit of 12 sailors (first signed up, first served)
  • J/22 CYC Friday Night Racing
    • Fridays, June 2 – August 18
      5:00 p.m. – end of racing

      The Corinthian Yacht Club Friday Night Races offer great low-key racing. One boat is reserved for Women only, one boat is reserved for the Youth Team, and two boats are open to all. Click HERE to sign up (skippers must be approved and added by Forrest Gay).

      The deadline for sailors hoping to skipper an SFYC J/22 is 6:00 p.m. the Thursday before each race and skippers must be approved by the Director of Sailing, in advance by emailing Forrest Gay at forrest@sfyc.org. Crews may register online until 5:00 p.m. on Fridays.

      To help us allocate the four boats, we encourage skippers and crew to register well in advance of a race.

    • The Corinthian Yacht Club Friday Night Races offer great opportunities for beginning and more experienced sailors to hone their skills, build camaraderie and compete. Whether you’re a skipper looking for crew for your own boat, or a crew member looking for a ride – we can help pair you up!

  • Cruise Out Skipper/Guest Exchange
    • The SFYC Cruise Committee is excited to offer a great lineup of cruises each year for our membership. It's a great way for sailors and power boaters to spend time on the water together, enjoying each other's company! If skippers are looking for crew, or members are looking for a ride, we do our best to match people up. For a description of our cruises, click on the schedule link, below.
