International Knarr Championship
On September 6-14, 2019 the Knarr fleets of the USA, Denmark and Norway will come together at The San Francisco Yacht Club to enter its 6th decade of international Corinthian competition and friendship. The event rotates annually between the three countries, and every other visit to San Francisco is hosted by SFYC.
While the San Francisco fleet was originally formed in 1960, the event, known as the IKC, was the vision of the San Francisco Bay fleet founder, Knud Wibroe (USA 120), to bring the USA fleet together with our European counterparts in Norway and Denmark for an annual international competition. In 1968 the IKC was born and the first competition was held here on San Francisco Bay and a long tradition of high-level competition coupled together with unique sense of camaraderie was born. Local sailing journalist, Kimball Livingston once wrote, “If this fleet could bottle and sell the secret sauce that draws and inspires its people, every fleet everywhere would pony up to buy some”. The IKCs are meant to be a special experience for not only the competitors, but to all involved. We welcome Club members to share in the experience.
